Codava Land struggle Motercade Jatha by Codava National Council CNC on 16/05/2011 started from Sri Padi Igguthappa Temple by performing solemn pooja Motercade passed through Kakkabe,Kunjila,Nelaji,Paleyathaluk ,Kolakeri and again returned to temple. In pursuance of our desired aim and also inorder to insist the inclusion of tabling the establishment of Codavaland Autonomous Region, under the 6th schedule of our Constitution, along with those touching Telengana and Gorkhaland Autonomy on the floor of the Parliament, in the immediate ensuing Parliament session. CNC has performed Motorcade jatha from Kottamudi to Napok on June 20, 2011 in continuation thereof. The same will be repeated elsewhere in Kodagu. The very next such Motorcade will be held at Murnad on june 30, 2011 starting from Hoddur(Podh).

Shri N U Nachappa Codava, President of CNC spoke at length touching all the demands, CNC is agitating for,and Nachappa spoke about mentioning Codavas against the column in the Caste wise census enumeration 2011 and he also advised the entire Codavas to be careful about maoist, naxalite menace. The granting of autonomy to Codavaland comprising 45 ancient Codava naads will be the only panacea for all Codava problems and pangs. Mr Kaliyanda Prakash welcomed, Mr Kaliyanda Vittala, Bachamanda Raja Poovana, Kundiyonda Ramesh Muddaiah and Bopanda Bollama spoke in the occasion. Nachappa Codava stressed that prime purpose of organising motorcade jatha after series of human chain programme, is to project CNC’s prime demand for Codava Land Autonomous Region, ethno linguistic tribal status to Codavas, special protection for customary personal laws ,and continuation of exemption certificate to possess gun under Indian Arms Act and Codava Thakk be included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution, universal recognition for Codava race and internal political self determination rights for Codava minority nationality besides for creating awareness among Codavas to mention ‘Codava only’ and never as ‘Codagaru’-‘Codaga’- ‘Coorgs’ or ‘Coorgi’ to be his or her caste in the Castewise census enumeration operative from June 2011. After his speech, he released the day schedule and the route of motorcade jatha . The jatha started at Paadi Igguthappa Temple, near Kakkabe, Madikeri taluk at 09 45 hrs on 16 May 2011.

It went through Clock tower, Bus stand, Gonikoppa Road, Doddatti Chowk and converged at Car stand Virajpet where CNC Chief N U Nachappa Codava addressed the gathering. CNC presented a memorandum through the Deputy Commissioner Kodagu to the President of India, Union Government and all concerned regarding the creation of Codavaland Autonomous Region along with Gorkhaland Territorial Administration before we could reach the festival spot at Capitol village Madikeri. Each and every enthusiastic participants expressed their desire for the establishment of Codava land Autonomous region. The internationally acclaimed social scientist Padmabushana Dr T K Oommen was the Chief Guest in the Seminar organised by CNC Codava National Council at Capitol Village, outskirts of Madikeri on 15 August 2011. The seminar was largely attended by the Codava enthusiasts. Professor T K Oommen analysing the characteristics of communal factions, linguistic groups, difference between the caste and tribal groups. Professor T K Oommen distinguished caste factions and tribes. According to him however much thickly populated in a given area, with predominant religious and caste groups which speak common language, different groups of caste factions, speaking any given language, people belonging to different castes, for example Brahmin, Harijan, Kuruba speaks one language of the particular area. But they cannot claim homeland on the basis of having their common language. So is the case with Sindhi and Urdhu speaking people and are numerically large and spread across the Nation are not entitled to claim homeland of their own in any given area. So the case is with people professing different faiths cannot claim for their own homeland. For instance the religious group say Muslims, Christians, Buddhists or Jains can't claim their own homeland, on the basis of their religious faith only. one exception is that they can claim homeland on the basis of their Nationality. None of this groups are eligible to claim homeland on account of the fact that no such single group is confined to itself in any particular given area. This is not true to tribes. Codava race by all deductions are qualified to be distinguished as having belonging to one single tribal racial group professing their own language, tradition, customary personal laws and having been inhabited within the formidable definable region. Tribal groups may also seek to establish homeland if they can prove that they have been migrated from different parts confined to any given area perpetually and it extends to tribal groups predominantly in any given area treated as their own homeland i.e adapted homeland. It extends to tribal groups by inheritance living only in a particular area it may be defined as original traditional homeland. We cannot find any group of people suitable enough to stake claim for homeland on the basis of adoption or tradition. But the claim of Codavas by race is entirely different from such groups of people. They fulfill all the aboriginal tribal characteristics, their social activities, clannish existence coupled with their own set of customary law, folk legal system and language. Codavas are more fit enough to be defined as a classical aboriginal tribal group, to fulfilling the necessities to claim their own homeland. Dr Oommen, advised Codavas not to be carried away by the assurances of Multinational companies, Moneybags and political or industrial personages i the name of economic development. None of them have come to Codavaland to develop Codavas and they are interested only in developing themselves by exploiting Codavas by race. He cautioned Codavas about the dangers of surrendering Codava identity to such ones for economic benefit. And your identity is paramount important than economic benefit.
