| Ages ago Codava Land was an Independent Nation state without any need to be under any obligations to any external and superior forces. Codava Land was being governed by Codava chieftains, Palegars as they used to be recognized, centuries ago and this fact finds support in the epic Ramayana. Graphic details of the topographical features of Kudu nad, type of administration as mentioned by Valmiky only suggests an undeniable fact that Codava Land for long existed as a country, nation state altogether. Even the encyclopedia Tamil legendary work, 'Abhidhana Chinta Mani' authored by that inimitable scholar A. Singara Velu Modaliar, definitely makes mention about the existence of 'Codava Land' amongst 56 independent Nation states with in Bharatha Varsha with the legendary Dashratha as the emperor, this also suggests that 'Codava Land' (Coorg) was a reality. From the time immemorial till 1633, Coorg was an independent nation state with confederation of 45 Nads administered by the alderman (i.e. Thakkas) with 12 principalities ruled by the Codava chieftains of Coorg, from 1633 to 1834 it was an independent Kingdom under alien Lingayath rulers of Keladi dynasty of ikkeri of Shimoga. From 1834 to 1857 it was ruled by a commissioner, sub-ordinate to the governor General of British East India Company. After the end of the rule of the British East India Company in 1857, in the advent of empress Victorian era it came under the direct rule of the British Empire and it remained a separate province till 1947 administered by Chief Commissioner's subordinate to Viceroys.

| Under the provisions of the Government of India Act 1919, a Minto - Marle type provincial Legislative Council came into existence in the year 1923, with 24 members of which 19 members were directly elected and 5 of them were nominated. This legislative council had legislative power, deliberative power and interrogatory power. As per the recommendations of Simon Commission report under the Government of India Act 1935, the Coorg Legislative Council had to send two representatives to the Federal Legislature of India as per the recommendations of the British Cabinet Council Mission. On 31st May 1946, the Coorg Legislative Council elected a member to represent Coorg State at the constituent assembly of India.

|
After the adoption of the Constitution in the year 1950 under the part 'C' states act, the Coorg legislative Council ceased to exist and a new Legislative Assembly came into existence, in the year 1952. Article 242 of the constitution of India, which recognized the State of Coorg was inserted exclusively for the State of Coorg. This Legislative Assembly not only had the legislative powers, but under the seventh schedule of the Constitution, it was included in the state list as well as in the concurrent list. the Coorg State has the opportunity to send the representatives, one to the Lok Sabha and another to the Rajya Sabha.
From 1952 to 1-11-1956 Coorg has a Legislative Assembly with 24 members and had a full pledged Government. Thus Coorg was a model part 'C' State in the whole of India.

| Personal Appearance of Codavas
|
|
| The Codavas are the principle tribe of the Codava land. The entire Codava tribes are homogenous and from time immemorial the Lords of the soil. For the last three centuries they are known as a compact body of mountaineers who resemble more a scotch clan than a hindu cast. That the Codavas of the present day are distinct from the Malayalam and Tulu people on the western coast as they are from the old Mysoreans in the north and east, though their peculiarities are to some extend allied to the habits of the one as well as to those of the other race, and even their language. The Codavas are tall, muscular, broad chested, strong limbed and swift footed.

| Whatever self declared political philosophers and the so-called historians may say about the type and the quality of the governance done by the lingayath rajas in reality the truth is other way round. AS many as 30 thousand and odd codavas have been Massacred ruthlessly by the alien lingayath ruling class and innumerable codava clans have been destroyed in violation of the time tested "Rajadharma" as has contemplated by great thinkers and active political philosophers of the yore like Lord Sri Krishna,
Kautilya, Megasthnanis, Aristotle, Tiruvelluvar, Sarvagna, Karl Marks and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. One recent comparison to lingayath rajas is the dictator whole part of Cambodia (Khmerrous) who Massacred ten lakhs people and one more is Hitler and Idi Amin of Uganda.
Without any other go Codavas felt it proper to seek help from Britishers only in order to stop the ruthless genocide by alien lingayath rajas in the name of religion and such other consideration. It is a total false analogy to equate the Lingayath rajas and their supporters to heroes of independence, but it is Codavas who should always be treated as real heroes of the war of independence.
Unless a numerically small class of people takes help from some other great force in order to save the entire community from the onslaught and consequential genocide at the hands of ruthless and immoral ruling class and Codavas did the very same thing and we are proud of Codavas of that era for having blissfully taken the active support of britishers at the moment. Why, we have other examples of the recent past and it certainly is the case of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Had not the words of Dr. Ambedkar been accepted while granting independence to India and delayed the process for five more decades on the ground that the people would have learnt to treat every other human individual like themselves things would not have come to this pass what we experience in our independent india.
Dalits are even now looked down upon, the reason being the independence was granted some 50 years earlier. If suggestion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar were to be implemented, each and every citizen of India would have a learnt to treat every other human individual as equal. Has did Dr. Ambedkar contemplated the continuation of British rule in India for some years for a solitary reason that his community would have had attained equal status with others, the case with Cadaves also is identical. Had not to the Britishers entered Codagu(Coorg), things would have been very different and then would not have
been a thing called Codava Race by now. So every Codava start thinking in that direction and we should be proud to say that codavas sided Britishers only with a solitary intention of saving entire Codava Race for times to come. So it is a fallacy to redicule Codavas as who have served has slaves of Britishers. Afterall the freedom is intended only for the benefit of natives and never an aggressor. However much later is powerful. Codavas were the native here and the lingayath rajas are known to be aggressor from out side. Quoting one example from recent history, the legendary Naga leader (NNC) A.Z. Phizo met Gandhiji weeks earlier from the day of independence only in order to inform him the major communities in india would treat Nagas has slaves and eliminate them after the nation becomes independence and Mahatma was graceful enough to asking him to try for independence should such a things becomes a cruel reality.
Should any individual fights in supports of any ruler of a given place for the shake of the King, he will not be considered as freedom, fighter of that place, and his descendents shall have no right to stake claim over the place for whose ruler their ancestor might have had fought in support of the rulers of that place. Quoting from recent history we would like to mention about Checkera Monnaiah who is known to have fought for the independence of Thelangana in 1940's. and taking the clue from it can his descendents stake claim for the hegemony of Telangana? at another Example is that Ernesto Chegevara of Argentina definitely as fought for the Independence of Cuba and Bolivia and can his descendents and his community people stake claim for Cuba or Bolivia on that ground? In the same manner a few individuals brought from Sulia who stood in support of a known ruthless and devilish alien ruler of codagu against the upsurge of Codavas in the same manner can the descendents are the once belonging to the community of such ones now stake claim for Kodagu. In actual fact those who stood guard to the erstwhile rajas wore no freedom fighters. At best they may be considered as mercenaries in the common language.
One other crude fact is that the demonic and rapacious alien rajas who ruled Codagu have tried to brain wash codavas by dictating " Rajendra Naame" and "Hukum Naama" after having suppressed and ransacked codavas the way present day under world dons who are known to have immersed in criminality saying that they have reformed and they would help people.
